Social Security

Income tax I do not like
But I do not complain
I help my country pay it's bills
While my finances drain

I watch them waste my money
I don't like what I see
But still I pay them every month
No choice is left to me

Now my country tells me
That no money will there be
When my kids reach retirement age
To draw Social Security

Where has all the money gone?
That's what I'd like to know
And how are we supposed to live
When, for working, we're too old?

They'll probably raise our taxes
To recover what they've lost
And, fool that I always am,
I'll help pay the cost

So many wasted programs
Have been funded, yes, by me
And the second monthly income tax
Called Social Security

Looking Ahead

The day has come, I see the sun
And wonder fills my life
My head held high, I struggle on
And heed not pain nor strife

I look ahead, "Why not?" I say
It's forward I must go
For progress never will be made
by struggling against the flow

The mountain stands in front of me
The grade is steep and rough
And I could quit and turn around
And say I've had enough

But looking up, I see the top
It is well within my reach
I've set my goals, I've made my choice
To reach that lofted peak

And so I'll take it step by step
And never will I stop
Until my head is in the clouds
And I have reached the top

We, THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES, DO HEARBY RESOLVE:

To continue to allow the vocal minority
To overrule the silent majority.
To face continued threat of imports
As ever gracious, but foolish, sports.

To mourn for the unemployed
While, since we are not one, we're overjoyed.
To laugh, though the world is tense,
And, who says we need more defense?

To promote a true welfare state
For those who blame us for their fate.
And to watch our proud eagle die
Without bringing a tear to our eye.

Are our ideals in tatters?
You say nothing still matters
While, to the life raft we're clinging
As our twi-light is gleaming?

Once upon a time there lived a wizard, old and gray
His robe was all in tatters and he'd seen a better day
His majic, it was slipping and his wand was badly bent
His eyes, once so majestic, were reduced, now, to a squint

His bag of tricks was empty now, his nerves had gone to pot
His hair was thinning rapidly, his teeth were full of rot
His shoulders sagged quite heavily, his pauch was sticking out
His incantations, once so clear, resounded, now, with doubt

His fingers, gnarled and stiffening, once performed the slight of hand
His knees, weaker day by day, made it difficult to stand
They buried him with honors with a seed clasped in his hand
And on the spot they buried him, a proud young tree now stands

Power is the shining light
That burns throughout our land
and the profit margins they achieve
I cannot understand

A public service, that's the claim
But the burden's on our shoulders
While the power companies fight and scratch
To cheer up their stockholders

You know our power system controls
Have, alas, all been defeated
When we have to face starvation
Just to keep our houses heated

Upon the land the snow doth fall
From heaven to the ground below
The air is brittle, sharp and clear,
And filled with flakes of snow

A fox stands in a clearing, wide
Poised in fear and in surprise
At the strange sound floating through the wood
And searches for a place to hide

The noise approaches ever near
And in one bound the fox doth break
For freedom from this fearsome thing
The last move but one this fox will make

This fox had never seen a road
A car, it could not understand
The fox died on a new highway
Built by blood and sweat of man

As progress is measured by wise old men
And man strives ever forward
Remember, please, the frightened fox
Who died in fear and terror
